This 11 hectare property in Lalande de Pomerol, owned by the Durantou family since 2000, is situated 1 km from the famous plateau of Pomerol, and is visible from the back door of Eglise Clinet. Les Cruzelles is often better than many Pomerols and Saint Emilions that we taste, yet far cheaper - thanks to the unfashionable appellation. Grapes are selected from the best terroirs of the vineyard - clay soils similar to those on the plateau of Pomerol. A wine that always reminds us of a top Pomerol. Recent vintages have been stunning and there have been impressive results in recent blind tastings including the "Southwold Group". Along with Roc de Cambes, this is, in our view, the best wine produced in a "satellite appellation" of Bordeaux. The pricing policy is moderate. We absolutely love Les Cruzelles and thousands of Farr Vintners' customers have enjoyed drinking it over the last twenty years.
The 2022 Les Cruzelles was picked between 1 and 12 September and matured in 50% new oak. This has plenty of fruité on the nose: small red cherries, redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, a touch of cedar in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with wonderful definition and mineralité , dark fruit, hints of black tea and spices, really harmonious and sappy on the finish. Possibly the best Les Cruzelles that I have tasted at this stage and sure to be an unbeatable value-for-money. 2028-2050
More serious and structured than La Chenade, the 2022 Les Cruzelles unwinds in the glass with aromas of cherries and blackberries mingled with hints of licorice and mint. Medium to full-bodied, lively and layered, it's built around powdery structuring tannins that gently assert themselves on the finish.
Les Cruzelles is brilliant this year. High intensity on the nose with fragrant, supple red fruits, toasted nutmeg and cumin with a whiff of pencil shavings. The palate is just as complex, with a glossy entry showcasing the dense red fruit at the core before a hit of vanilla and fresh toast. This is generous and engaging, with a saline tone refreshing the notes of roasted plum and fresh cherry. The tannins build to the finish, making the structure of a truly Grand Vin. Persistent in structure, spice and fruit, it will have a long, open drinking window.
A solid red with blackberry, chocolate, walnut and hazelnut. Medium to full body. Smily face here, thanks to the ripe seeds.
Les Cruzelles 2022 is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and it has a deep garnet-purple color. It requires a little swirling to unlock notes of licorice, tilled soil, and Sichuan pepper, over a core of plum preserves, baked blackberries, and raspberry leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft, elegantly styled, and graceful, with just enough fruit and a savory finish.
More clay in the soils here and there is a lovely balance, fleshy in texture and high impact, but with a ton of interest, dark deep chocolate, gunsmoke, aniseed, fennel, black cherry, lovely fresh acidities. Harvest September 1 to 12, 28hl/h, 50% new oak, Noemie Durantou winemaker.
80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample.
Purer and more refined than La Chenade with added complexity and length. Red-fruit aroma. Some sweetness on the mid-palate (oak?) but fresh and crunchy on the finish. (JL) 14.6%
