Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata, Rocche Costamagna 2016

Tasting Notes

La Morra. Tasted blind. Just mid ruby. Earthy nose with a note of pine needle and a hint of old leather. The fruit is slow to emerge on the palate, but the whole is finely balanced with lively, supple acidity and coating tannins. Elegant as well as concentrated. 14.5% Drink 2024 – 2036

Initially quite closed on the nose but with a bit of agitation, rose petal and sweet spice jump from the glass. There is a lovely mix of fruit on the palate - the usual ripe red cherries but there is an undercurrent of darker fruits - quite broody. It is very concentrated but very well balanced, with the vintage signature of freshness and silky tannins. A big wine with years ahead of it but very enjoyable now too. Impressive.
