Reminiscent of a premier cru from Beaune, the 2001 La Lagune reveals aromas of sweet and sour cherries, cedar, and balsam wood with toasty oak in the background. Medium-bodied, elegant, and refreshing, it should be enjoyed over the next 5-7 years. This is the first vintage for one of Bordeaux’s bright young oenologists, Caroline Frey.
The 2001 La Lagune has more freshness and vitality on the nose compared to the 2000 vintage. It offers unfurling wild strawberry and orange pith notes neatly interwoven into tobacco and graphite aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft opening. It is quite plush in the mouth, surprisingly so for a 2001 Left Bank, with candied redcurrants and strawberry pastille that frame a rounded, if slightly simple, easy-going finish. Drink this now and over the next decade. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château. (Drink between 2018-2025)
