Musigny VV, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé 1993

Tasting Notes

Still relatively if no longer completely primary with a nose that is the crystalline essence of black cherry pinot sap and leads to massively structured and thick flavors with dense, ripe tannins that are completely buffered by all the extract. This is flat out great and still quite youthful though the initial signs of maturity are now evident. In my view, this is the best de Vogüé Musigny since at least '71 and is a monument in the making as it will live for 50 years without breathing hard. Multiple, and largely consistent, notes though a few bottles have seemed excessively hard on the dry finish. Still, the two most recent bottles were almost perfect with a silky mouth feel and well-integrated tannins.
