The maiden 2024 Estate White Blend is based around 73% Chenin Blanc and raised for 12 months in 58% neutral oak, new oak plus concrete. It has a light bouquet that opens nicely in the glass, with scents of tangerine and nectarine, quite pure and sensual in style. Fine delineation. The palate is well balanced with good weight, quite strict on the entry with a keen line of acidity, fleeting notes of persimmon and orange pith leading to a waxy-textured, well-defined finish. There is a sense of confidence about this maiden release from what was the Lammershoek Estate: one to watch. Drink 2027-2037.
This is a first release from the historic Lammershoek estate on the Paardeberg, now under new ownership as they say in the hotel trade. It’s a brilliant, layered, complex blend of Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Marsanne and the Hungarian grape Hárslevelű, with aromas of honeysuckle, fennel and wet stone and a tangy, racy palate of orange zest, pear and pink grapefruit. A wine that looks every bit as good as it tastes. 2026-30.
