A complex style with a spicy nose, showing lots of toasty aromas, red and black currants, pure leather and a whiff of leaves typical of this wine. Medium-bodied, silky and soft with sleek, elegant tannins and midpalate weight. Brilliant integrated acidity tingles in the superpolished, amazingly long finish of licorice and dark fruit. Drink or hold.
Full bottle 1,330 g. From a bottle with a flowery label designed by Chiara Camoni, who represented Italy at the 2026 Venice Biennale, as the fourth edition of Arte a San Leonardo (a limited edition of 999 bottles and 99 magnums) and a superior vintage. Spontaneous fermentation in small concrete vats, manual pumpovers and aged for 24 months in a mix of barriques and tonneaux (relatively few new). Then 30 months of bottle age before release in September 2026. As usual, the Cabernet is blended with Carmenère (not so obviously ‘green’ in this vintage) and Merlot. (The price of a single bottle of the wine without the artist’s label will be closer to £70.)
Maturing shaded garnet. Fully ripe nose but very recognisably San Leonardo with a bone-dry finish. Long, fresh cool-climate Cabernet with beautiful balance. The antithesis of stereotypical Napa Cab.
