Blagny La Piece Sous Le Bois (Rouge), Domaine Matrot 2018

A discreet but not invisible application of wood and menthol merge with the liqueur-like essence of red cherry and softly spiced aromas. There is good size, weight and richness to the attractively mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess a very suave, even velvety mouthfeel that continues onto the lingering and slightly more complex finish where the wood telegraphed by the nose reappears. Note that this is also sufficiently firm to require at least a decade to completely resolve the supporting tannins. (Drink starting 2028)
