Truly wonderful nose of peppercorns, cloves, blackberries, lavender and blueberries. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with tannins that build from the moment the wine hits your mouth. It’s long and refined in texture. Poised at the end, suggesting a bright future in bottle. Drinkable now but will age beautifully.
The 2021 Homage Syrah is fine and detailed, with pure fruit on the mid-palate, shaped by a diaphanous web of tannin, which provides structure and length through the finish. The weighty bottle suggests the wine might land with an audible thud, yet it carries levity and grace in equal measure. The tannins through the finish expose the austere terroir for all to see. Gorgeous wine.
Homage is always a wine that takes one’s breath away, but this 2021 is on a different level. A fourth dimension of grandeur has been transplanted into this wine’s core because it occupies a lot of bandwidth when you taste it. The world is immediately silenced when you lower your proboscis to the glass, and when you taste it, the heavenly hosts chime in. This is an excellent effort from Trinity Hill and continues an unbroken run of excellence.
