Egly Ouriet Vignes de Bisseuil, Egly-Ouriet Base Vintage 2020

A superb bottling from Egly that combines the 2020 (50%), 2019 (30%) and 2018 (20%) vintages, this 70% Chardonnay has a lift and fragrance of citrus blossom on the nose, but the four years on lees give it equal savoury, biscuity depth. Racy in acids but full and satiny in texture - as expected given the trio of superb years this is drawn from - this is a complete, moreish Champagne that is delicious already. There are flecks of baking spices from the barrel ageing that complement the fresh bread and biscuit notes from the lees. Textural but never heavy, this has a long, complex finish with more stone and citrus fruit promising an elegant maturation over the next decade or more in bottle.
