Tasting Notes

The 2018 Tokaji Gold Label 6-Puttonyos is a different beast to the 5-Puttonyos, as expected, laden with much more concentration and richness on the nose, with marmalade quince and a hint of melted candle wax. This is fairly powerful in style. The palate is beautifully balanced with a viscous entry, but there is much more complexity here, with superb tension and notes of marmalade, peach skin, fresh fig and orange pith. What marks this Tokaji out is that despite the residual sugar and concentration, it is nimble, light on its feet and doesn't pall after the first glass. Outstanding. (197.1g/l residual sugar and 6.75g/l acidity) 2024 - 2050

A brilliant introduction to Royal Tokaji's top wines, mostly sourced from their own classed growth vineyards and entirely made of Furmint. The bright gold colour indicates the succulent, sweet apricot and tangerine fruit that bursts from the glass on the nose, together with a little saffron and ginger syrup. Generous and rich on the palate, this harnesses just what makes Tokaji so special - acidity. Despite the unctuous, delicious tones of apricot jam and dried citrus the freshness here is uplifting. Positively buzzing with energy, this moreish wine is hard to spit already, though it will doubtless age well for years.

Ripe summer pear and tart persimmons aromas burst out of the glass, leading straight into a pleasantly viscous, dare-we-say luscious palate. Creamy and structured, the wine has a long, tart finish that makes it nearly impossible to finish one sip without craving another.
