Formerly known as Haut Bages Averous but rebranded in 2008, the second wine of Château Lynch Bages has a modern label that brings it up to date with the exciting rennovations taking place here. Maturation is in barrels that have seen one vintage of Lynch Bages. The style of this wine is very much like Lynch Bages itself rather than that of an easy-drinking 2nd label.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of cassis, dark berries and creamy new oak introduce the 2023 Echo de Lynch-Bages, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered wine with a succulent core of fruit framed by youthfully chewy tannins.

89/90
William Kelley, Wine Advocate, April 2024

The 2023 Echo de Lynch-Bages has a high-toned bouquet of cassis and floral notes that will appeal to those seeking a more hedonistic Pauillac in this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied and fleshy with succulent tannins and a cashmere-like mouthfeel. The finish is ripe and quite long. Drink it over the next six to eight years.

As always, Echo is not a second wine designed to be drunk young. Brambly fruit lines the nose, which is intense and ripe, with an almost roasted quality. The tannins hit immediately on the palate, moving in tandem with the black fruit at the core. Lightly chewy with rich chalky depth, there is a saline edge that is very moreish, but the tannins will need a little time to settle before approaching. Vertical, tense and very much of the house style.

Thomas Parker MW, Farr Vintners, April 2024

A balance of blackberry, chocolate and stone with a medium body, creamy texture and a soft finish. The length and depth are very pretty, while the juicy, velvety tannins are so attractive.

92/93
James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2024

The 2023 Echo de Lynch-Bages is a potent second wine. It’s really the Cabernets that drive the wine's flavor profile and overall feel. The Echo is not as juicy or succulent as it can be, rather it is a wine that will need a year or two post-release to show at its best.
