Tasting Notes

The 2023 Sauvage Vineyard Pinot Noir is often released a little after the Burn Cottage Vineyard, but I am taking full advantage of being at the winery to taste it. The percentage of new oak is only 23%, and yet it exudes a sweet, toasty perfume over and above the fruit upon first nosing it. Beyond this, the fruit on the palate is supple and sapid, the tannins speaking clearly in their pulverized, ductile way. The whole bunches are a little less this year, with around 6% total in this cuvée. This is all mineral spice and cool restraint, albeit with intense fruit and wet chalk notes. I think this is as equally beautiful and beguiling as the Burn Cottage vineyard wine. They're different but equal. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork. Drink: 2025-2043
