Tasted from half bottle, this is another impressive showing for one of our perennial best-sellers. The satiny purple colour in the glass is matched by the sweet, glossy fruit on the nose, offering brambly blackberry, raspberry and cherry fruit with a lick of clove and touch of liquorice. The palate is smooth, supple and bursting with that same fruit, which is dark and juicy but never over the top. Propped up by lightly chalky tannins, this is another excellent effort for this property and - though it is young - it is absolutely approachable now, particularly in this format.
Cloves, black plums, olives and iron on the nose, followed by a dark-fruited, juicy and medium-bodied palate. Medium-firm tannins. Fresh at the end. 70% merlot, 20% cabernet sauvignon and 10% cabernet franc. Try in 2027.
A deep, shiny ruby colour with a spicy nose of brambly black fruit and cassis. The palate is juicy, with ripe fruit knit together with chalky, lightly chewy tannins. The core is intense, lightly oily and ripe with fruit, accented with some wood spice. Carignan continues to deliver superb value for money, linking Bordeaux's traditional chalky, cool black fruit with a juicy, moreish approachabillity. Drink over the coming 5-8 years.
