This is austere and discreetly citric, with green apples and a smoky note. The palate is balanced and bright, with a seductive texture that really makes this harmonious. Trenzado, which means threaded or braided, is the name given to the unique form of trellising found in the islands. This is mostly listan blanco, as palomino is locally known, planted on volcanic soils. Drink now or hold.
From one of Tenerife's most celebrated estates, Trenzado is named after the vines' rare pruning method, where the vines are trained in long, woven canes. The variety is Listan Blanco, also known as Palomino. The volcanic soils lend this wine real personality and depth. The 2023 is a straw colour in the glass, opening with some flintiness from those soils, together with notes of white peach, quince and tangy sitrus. The palate has notes or tarte tatin, membrillo and earth, together with fresh cashews and more of that flinty volcanic reduction. Supple, savoury and complex, this is a superb wine for drinking now, and a great introduction to the Canary Islands - a region that continues to grow traction for making serious wines with approachability.
