Tasting Notes

The 2024 Syrah is made by Chris Alheit and William Fogwell and comes from two vineyards. It offers brambly blackcurrant and raspberry scents on the nose, well defined with hints of clove. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, very clean and pure, with a little more depth than the 2023 but focused and elegant on the finish. What a lovely Syrah. Drink 2027-2040.

Chris Alheit's only red wine is a joint venture with his friend William Fogwell. Made with grapes from the Ava Vineyard on the schist soils of the Swartland and a larger portion from Karibib's granite in the Polkadraai Hills, it has remarkable intensity, wafts of iodine and High Church incense, plenty of grip and grunt and a meaty palate of black olive, cracked pepper and steak tartare. 2027-35.
