This is fresher still with its cool and restrained nose that is comprised by notes of both red and dark pinot fruit, soft earth and a floral hint. The well-delineated and intensely mineral-inflected medium weight flavors deliver fine depth and length. I like the balance and this is fashioned in an ageworthy style. (Drink starting 2020)
The 2013 Saint Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Rouge has a crisp airy, quite stony bouquet that blossoms nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannin, a crisp line of acidity and a focused, tensile finish that has a certain coolness and aloofness about it. Very fine, though I feel that it is no match for the white.
