Cornas Reynard, Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aine 2020

Tasting Notes

Saturated ruby color. Highly expressive, spice- and mineral-accented aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, pungent flowers and olive, along with a hint of incense that emerges as the wine opens up. Offers deeply concentrated cassis, blueberry, violet pastille and cola flavors that show superb depth and energy thanks to a core of smoky minerality. Finishes spicy, broad and
impressively long, with steadily building tannins and repeating florality

Deep, concentrated and dense, there's plenty of fruit here, plenty of resonance. Proper Cornas tannins, grippy, slightly edgy, with good acidity and salinity underneath. The oak work does feel quite robust at present, but should integrate further in time, though will take a while. The fruit is lush and ripe, a touch sweet, remarkably generous for the appellation. You feel the heat of the vintage, the alcohol is quite elevated. Will gain complexity in time. All destemmed, 20% new oak. (Drink between 2029-2040)
