The 2016 Côte Rôtie Mes Grands Lieux is a beauty. It has a classic, elegant, yet concentrated style to go with notes of black raspberries, spice, dried flowers, and hints of incense. It’s medium to full-bodied, has building tannins, and a great, great finish.
In comparison to the 2015, the 2016 Côte Rôtie Mes Grands Lieux is all about finesse and elegance. Ripe red and black fruits, spice, peppery herbs, and floral notes all emerge from the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, polished tannins, and outstanding length. It's a beautifully complete, satisfying, complex Côte Rôtie to drink over the coming 10-15 years. Drink 2026-2041.
Still reductive at this stage, the 2016 Mes Grands Lieux stands out as one of the most inherently complex, delicate and perfumed wines of the vertical tasting. It unwinds slowly in the glass, revealing aromas of dark berries, rose, timut pepper, mocha, tapenade and mulberries. Full-bodied yet remarkably poised, it is dense and deep, built around a multidimensional core of fruit framed by filigreed tannins and energized by incisive acidity, extending into a long, ethereal and seemingly endless finish. Here, acidity plays a defining role, conferring both lift and finesse while ensuring the wine’s capacity to age gracefully for two decades or more.. Drink: 2026-2056
