Tasting Notes

Purple tinged but light in colour with an intense forest fruit nose that blends dark cherry, blackberry and raspberry in one. The palate is very youthful and feels grown up, with persistent fine tannins providing ample structure for piercing and powerful fruit. There is a lingering sappy tone to this wine, offsetting that ripe fruit at the core. This is a serious Pinot that warrants a little bottle age. It feels very Central Otago but has real presence and depth.

Thomas Parker MW, Farr Vintners, July 2025

Bannockburn, just opposite Felton Road.
Dense and minerally. Dry finish but very smooth-textured on the way there. Just a tad astringent on the end. A firm wine. (JR) 2027 - 2035

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, July 2025

Delicate and measured aromas of flowers, sweet herbs, wild strawberry and boysenberry. The palate is elegant and restrained with quieter tones but there is structure buried underneath which builds across the sustained finish. This has a lovely flow and persistent fruit which is going to need time to reveal its complexity. Very long indeed with hidden power, this will be stunning in time.

The “Real Review” tasting note here is from an extensive blind tasting of all Central Otago Pinot Noirs from the 2024 vintage. Wild Irishman had 4 wines in the Top Ten of all wines tasted and - apart from Felton Road Block 3 and Block 5 – the best 3 wines of the entire tasting.
