The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru has a lot of reduction on the nose, and at the moment this subdues the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with finely tuned tannins, a keen line of acidity and admirable tension. Lightly spiced and slightly chalky, there is a touch of wood to be fully assimilated on the finish. However, there is a pleasing flow to this wine, and it seems to gain precision after returning to it after 30 minutes. Long-term. Its ultimate quality will be based on how that reduction plays out, but it gets better and better in the glass until I end up reaching the score shown. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2029-2055)
Garnet with a light orange rim. Very immediate fruit at first then a reductive element takes over. The fruit does start to build a little better and there is concentration. Still, the fruit is in a leaner. Less ripe mode. Some quality and length to the aftertaste. With fifteen minutes in the glass this turns into a very fine wine, though on the less
Once again there is a plethora of floral elements adding elegance to the nose of cool and restrained aromas that also include an exotic tea component. There is a bit more size, weight and volume to the more powerful, and more mineral-inflected, larger-scaled flavors that terminate in a serious, youthfully austere and built-to-age finale. This is a classically styled Richebourg of robust power and punch. (Drink starting 2033)
