A wonderfully spicy nose combines notes of sandalwood, hoisin and crushed fennel with those of violet, plum liqueur and an admirably subtle hint of wood. The rich, caressing and enveloping flavors are also quite generously proportioned while coating the palate with sappy dry extract, all wrapped in a lingering finish that really fans out as it sits on the palate. This highly seductive effort needs to develop more depth, but the underlying material appears to be present for that to occur with 12 to 15 years of bottle aging. (Drink starting 2031)
