The 2016 Vosne-Romanée En Orveau 1er Cru is noticeably deeper in colour than its peers. The bouquet is more opaque and distant, demands more coaxing from the glass: dark plum, hints of oyster shell and a soupçon of blueberry. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is firm backbone here - not rigid - but certainly not pliant at the moment, though bottle age will mellow this in time. Good potential, but serious and cerebral. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
Rich deep purple, almost a nutty note along with the stemmy intensity. Chocolates to follow. Beautifully succulent and there is a lovely lifted thread running through the second half of the wine which delivers elegance through the chocolate note. Very persistent.
