Château Belair Monange is now owned by the Moueix family, and has had a new name since the 2008 vintage. This is one of the best vineyards in Saint Emilion and in the 1850s was rated as the appellation's leading property. It is perched at the top of the slope right next to Ausone, near Canon and above Angélus. Despite the brilliant terroir, the winemaking was mediocre for many years until the Moueix purchase. It is clear that Edouard Moueix is transforming this château into one of the stars of Saint Emilion. The vineyard is planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Work is ongoing to improve the yield of vines up to 100 years old, in tandem with filling in gaps in the vineyard. 26 hectares. A second wine "Annonce" is now produced from the younger vines. The new winery completed in 2023 is absolutely stunning.
In 2025 the Merlot grapes were harvested from September 4th to 15th and the Cabernet Franc on the 19th. It is 98% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and the wine will be matured in 50% new oak for 16-18 months.
The 2025 Château Belair-Monange opens in the glass with rich aromas of sweet cherries, berry preserve and fruit compote mingled with hints of licorice and spices. Medium- to full-bodied, satiny and suave, it's lively and polished, with a rich core of sun-kissed fruit and a youthfully structured finish.
The 2025 Bélair-Monange was picked between September 4 and 19 and matured in 50% new oak. This has a classy nose, understated at first, exquisite delineation, nuanced with its mixture of red and black fruit, sage, undergrowth and light rose petal scents, real purity. The palate is armed with a satin-like texture, real depth and gentle grip, yet discreet and poised with disarming pliancy and fluidity on the almost viscous finish. Real umami sensation with this wine. This is a sophisticated Bélair-Monange that will give decades of drinking pleasure. Drink: 2032-2058
Vivid ruby colour with a superb perfume, this is very enticing with its notes of red cherry, plum and strawberry. The palate is slick and rounded, with moreish, seasoned red and black fruits and measured wood that is integrating nicely already. The tannins are ripe but build through the palate, giving real structure and depth for the fruit to cling to. While this is seductive and feels open, it is easy to see this ageing gracefully in bottle. Excellent.
Tight and firm, with toned tannins that run the length of the wine and create energy in the finish of crushed stones and chalk. Medium- to full-bodied. Its power spreads nicely across the palate. 98% merlot and 2% cabernet franc.
Gorgeous nuanced crushed red rose petal nose, this has a lot of juice running right through the palate and is totally delicious, cherry pit, savoury blueberry and cranberry fruits, a ton of limestone signature, long and drawn out on the finish. Again a limestone junkie wine but here you will definitely get your fix. 26hl/h, Harvest September 4 to 19. 50% new oak for ageing. 2034-2048.
The 2025 Bélair-Monange is another outstanding wine from Saint-Émilion's plateau in this very challenging vintage. Aromatic, sculpted and wonderfully precise, Bélair-Monange marries power with finesse. Floral overtones, blood orange and a kick of exotic spice meld into red-toned fruit as the 2025 shows off its considerable allure. Clean saline notes appear on the mid-palate, adding tension and energy through to the reverberating finish. 2033 - 2065
