This seven hectare vineyard on the limestone hillside of Saint Emilion adjoins Ausone and has the same owner and winemaker. The Vauthier family have owned it since 1921. Around 2,500 cases are produced annually from vines that average around 35 years old.
The 2025 is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. 18 months maturation here in 100% new oak.
Offering up notes of minty berries, spices and new oak, the 2025 Moulin St Georges is medium- to full-bodied, fleshy and lively, with ripe tannins and the bright acids that always characterize this west-facing site opposite Ausone.
The 2025 Moulin Saint-Georges was picked between September 11 and 18 and aged for 18 months entirely in new oak. Incidentally, the vines here are under organic conversion. Firstly, the oak is neatly integrated on the nose, in fact, you would guess there is much less than 100%, the brambly red berry fruit mixed with sous-bois and leather coming through nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, with pliant tannins, very pure and refined, more blueberry and cassis fruit coming through with a rounded, smooth finish that is oddly just a little Petit Verdot-like (none here, incidentally). This should age well in bottle, but will be seductive in its flush of youth. Drink 2030-2055.
A good value pick from the Vauthier family, this has a ruby sheen in the glass and sweet, pulpy, enticing fruit on the nose. The palate is chocolatey and dark, with notes of espresso, damson and forest fruit. The tannins are polished, allowing that juicy fruit to shine. Luxuriant and easy to like, this should drink well fairly young but have a long, open drinking window.
Precise and focused, with chalky tannins and fine acidity, leading to an almost effervescent, saline finish.
The 2025 Moulin Saint-Georges is a delight. Plump and juicy, with lovely forward fruit, the 2025 offers up generous blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, mint and cinnamon. Soft, supple curves add to its considerable appeal. This inviting Saint-Émilion is a total charmer. Best of all, it should drink well with minimal cellaring. 2028 - 2040
