BRANE-tastic Claret - 2010 Baron de Brane

If you are looking for value for money in Bordeaux then look no further. We are pleased to be able to offer an exclusive parcel of the stunning second wine of Second Growth Château Brane-Cantenac, Baron de Brane 2010.

Often, the sensible option when it comes to getting the highest quality for your money in Bordeaux, is to buy second wines from great vintages. 2010 is unquestionably a great vintage. It has a level of gravitas, power and complexity that few vintages of the past fifty years can rival. Of course, with such accolades often comes a high price. In these situations, we seize the opportunity when we come across a wine that not only has the exceptional quality of 2010 but also comes with an exceptional price tag.

The other issue can be that wines from this blockbuster vintage are unable to be drunk in their youth, requiring years of cellaring. Not here. This ‘ex cellar’ Baron de Brane 2010 is ready to be enjoyed immediately or over the next few years. This is very much the little brother of the Château Brane-Cantenac 2010, described by Neal Martin as ‘a sensational vintage for the estate’. Consequently, it exhibits similar concentration of fruit, elegance and smooth tannin but without the current robust tannic structure of the Grand Vin.

This is the last of the stock available from the château so it’s an opportunity not to be missed. Read more about Château Brane-Cantenac and how we discovered this fantastic wine here.

A deep ruby in the glass, this has an expressive nose of ripe plums, bramble fruits and a hint of savoury spices. The palate is juicy on entry, chock full of summer fruits that are supported by ripe but crunchy tannins. Through the mid palate come notes of graphite, rosemary and nutmeg which add a layer of complexity. Smooth tannins and fresh acidity keeps the wine in perfect balance and adds freshness, but the silkiness means that this wine is already perfect to drink. A superb window into the style of the 2010 vintage with an atypical approachability.
