We have championed the wines of Kutch and Ceritas for over a decade now, the two producers making small batch, harmonious and fresh wines that speak to cool sites and a clear sense of vision. Both producers release their wines at prices that are terrific value for money, particularly in the context of American wine pricing.
Jamie Kutch is an ex-stockbroker turned vigneron, with a clear philosophy to make pure, ethereal Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from some of California's marginal, cool vineyards. His experience has led to refinement year on year, the latest releases a testament to honing his craft. The Chardonnay has a gentle hit of reduction and salinity, with real clarity of citrus fruit - it is a fantastic expression of its cool climate. Each Pinot Noir now translates its site transparently, giving subtle variations with measured whole-bunch aromatics, translucent colours and ethereal aromatics.
At Ceritas the ideals are similar - purity, vibrancy and translation of place, and though the wines have a little more sheen they are just as vivid and moreish. Founder John Raytek favours minimum intervention whilst ensuring that everything he produces is both fruit driven and reflective of site. The Pinots have 60-80% whole cluster while the Chardonnays have the perfect balance between richness and salinity and are enjoyable from the outset. Much like Rhys (who Raytek briefly worked for), the wines have always been good but have moved into a higher orbit in recent years, they are now some of the best in class for the region.
We can offer a small selection from both producers with a 10% discount as we look to sell through our remaining stocks and make way for new vintages. These wines are terrific value, and will make a welcome addition to those who follow the wines as well as being a great introduction to those looking to spread their wings beyond the traditions of Burgundy.
