2021 Brunello di Montalcino

2021 Brunello di Montalcino is just coming on to the market and we have put together a selection of our favourite wines in what is a fantastic vintage for the region. Highly rated by critics and very impressive from the young wines we have tasted ourselves, writers like Eric Guido have described it as a hypothetical blend of 2016 and 2019. These are wines that will drink superbly in relative youth, but which have the structure to age gracefully in bottle.

Expanding on the vintage, Guido says "The wines offer both near-term appeal and the balance to mature over the next 15 to 20 years. These are structured, youthfully tense wines, but it’s not difficult to find pleasure in them today." He believes "The 2021s are all about grace, vibrancy and purity", calling it "remarkably successful."

Walter Speller, writing for JancisRobinson.com, says the vintage defines "new reference points for Montalcino", saying "There is an overall elegance and transparency that I also saw in 2013, but never in such a convincing show of wines." Kerin O'Keefe, an authority on the shifting world of Italian wine and author of the book Brunello di Montalcino writes "Rarely have I tried so many Brunellos that upon release give as much pleasure these do while still offering good aging potential that will carry them easily forward to the 15-20 year mark. Generally speaking, they have impressive fruit richness, structure, beguiling aromatics and radiance. The very best also show elegant restraint and impeccable balance."

We have no direct ties and therefore no obligation to any particular winemakers in Montalcino, these are simply the wines that we love. Our full selection can be seen below.

The wines will ship to the UK this Autumn.
