Last year we introduced the fabulous wines from Tamerán - a series of knockout whites made from rare grape varieties on Gran Canaria. This project, a joint venture by the celebrated winemaker Jonatan García Lima (of Suertes del Marques) and David Silva (of Manchester City FC), has quickly produced some of the most engaging, unique wines from Spain's Canary Islands.
The winery sits on the top of a dome, with vines positioned perfectly for high quality wine production on rocky outcrops around the main building. The grapes produce uniquely characterful wines that are absolutely delicious. As with last year, we are delighted to offer three of our favourite wines in a mixed tasting case, which is available for £204 per six in bond.
The first of these three wines is a Marmajuelo - a wine full of citrus with great aromatics. You will see notes of tangerine and aheady bouquet of flowers in this fleshy, immediate wine ideal for drinking in its youth. Second is the Vijariego Blanco, a late-ripening variety made in miniscule quantities, it is layered with struck-match reduction, pithy citrus and ripe baked apricots. Last but not least is the Malvasía Volcánica, the most serious and ageworthy of the three wines. This has wonderful, refreshing acidity, salty citrus and a real hit of amaro that keeps you coming back for more. All three are designed to be drunk from the get go, and have remarkably modest alcohols, ranging from 11-12.5% abv.
We were very impressed by the range of 2022 Tamerán wines - each unique and delicious, with all three in the mixed case receiving 93 points from Luis Gutiérrez in the Wine Advocate. The wines are also available to buy individually in six packs, including a Verdello and Babosa Blanco that are not in the mixed case.
