Germany

Germany is home to the Riesling grape which makes some of the world's greatest and most long-lived white wines. From the fully dry Trocken to the ultra sweet Trockenbeerenauslese or TBA, it's the styles in between that provide the most interesting drinking with Spatlese combining ripe fruit with zingy acidity and Auslese indicating later picked and richer wines.

In the past German Riesling was perceived as being overly sweet and of questionable quality but thankfully those days are long gone. The top wines from producers like Egon Muller and Keller lay a strong claim to German Riesling being the world’s greatest white grape.
