Nuits St Georges Les Chaignots, Mugneret-Gibourg 2021

Tasting Notes

Cropped at a derisory 16 hectoliters per hectare, the Mugnerets were obliged to retain some whole bunches with the 2021 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots simply to fill the fermentation vat. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, with sweet tannins and an ample core of fruit, it's redolent of wild berries, rose petals and spices.

Three new barrels in six and a half, from 1.27ha. A fresh vibrant ruby purple. The bouquet is lovely, quite floral for Nuits-St-Georges, with a touch of oak, but also a concentration of fresh but dark fruit, quite a savoury brambly note behind, I could almost imagine some stems. Quite open and certainly attractive. Drink from 2026-2031.
