The now mothballed Port Ellen distillery took its name from the Islay port less than a mile away. Originally established as a malt mill in 1825, the property became a distillery in 1833 but it closed down in 1983 (having seen many different owners and changes of fortune inbetween). Today, as a result of it having closed, Port Ellen bottles are highly sought after.
Sherry Hogshead - Natural Cask Strength (54.3%). No colouring or chill-filtration. Distilled March 1983, bottled February 2019. 133 bottles produced.
Only 133 bottles of this 35-year-old were produced, having been distilled in 1983 at the now-closed Port Ellen distillery. Bottled in 2019, this fabulous whisky was matured in a sherry hogshead.
