Vosne Romanee Orveaux, Domaine Sylvain Cathiard 2018

Tasting Notes

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée En Orveaux 1er Cru is perhaps the overlooked gem within Cathiard’s portfolio, a view shared by the winemaker himself. This latest iteration has brilliant delineation on the nose, offering intense blackberry, raspberry and crushed mineral aromas that blossom with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannins, a killer line of acidity and a sense of symmetry toward the long finish. This is outstanding. 2024-2050.

Black purple and still showing some malolactic character on the nose. Usually this vineyard goes through early, but this year was late. Thickly textured with some black cherry fruit and a bit of blackberry, but fresh again. The wine is more backward so less well knit but that is just a question of timing. The potential for long term keeping is all there.
