**Note: 100% from the Chambolle side that combines about one-third terres rouges and the remainder from terres blanches**
A densely fruited and liqueur-like nose of red cherry, underbrush, spice, earth and menthol slides into the massively-scaled and suave flavors that possess superb mid-palate concentration and evident muscularity before culminating in a robust, powerful and imposingly structured finish that goes on and on. Once again this is an exceptionally firm effort that is beyond all doubt built-to-age and a wine that is going to need at least a decade of bottle age first.
The 2016 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a light bouquet with fragrant red cherry and strawberry fruit, nicely defined but I would be seeking more vigor, more gumption considering the vineyard. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, elegant and quite feminine, but like the nose it feels like it does not want to go that extra mile and deliver the amplitude you expect from a Bonnes-Mares. The 2015 was outstanding but this feels as if it is resigned to standing in its shadow. Drink Date 2020 - 2035
