The elusive 2013 Bienvenue Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru (there are just one and a half barrels in this year) is raised in 50% new oak. It has a riveting, granitic bouquet that has razor-sharp focus and wonderful intensity – it just roots you to the spot. The palate is tender, delicate and refined, the acidity perfectly judged and just gradually intensifying toward a really effortless, cerebral finish. Could this be one of the whites of the 2013 vintage? I think so.
