The 2014 Le Gay has a perfumed and ebullient bouquet with blackberry, leather and warm brick aromas. I appreciate the delineation here and the manner in which it blossoms in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well balanced and gentle in style, caressing with pure strawberry and cranberry scents towards the elegant finish. This is a great Le Gay. Blueberries and spices with some black-pepper aromas. Medium body and firm and silky tannins that are polished and integrated. Needs two to three years to soften. Tight and pretty.
Tasted blind. Minty, biscuit nose. Some vibrancy. Racy and even a little porty. Grip on the end.

Formerly owned by the same family as neighbour Chateau Lafleur, Le Gay is now owned by the family of the late Catherine Péré-Vergé along with other Pomerol properties Montviel and la Violette. The 6 hectare vineyard is planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc with vines around 50 years old. It has been producing outstanding Pomerols in recent vintages. 6 hectares. 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, with 100% new oak and a yield of 27hl/ha. 21,000 bottles made. Bright, medium-deep ruby with a purple rim. Very fresh and floral on an expressive and sweet nose. Incredible purity of cherries and plums. Very enticing. The palate is one of red fruits and sweet spice. The core of fruit is plump and has a plush texture with high levels of glycerol and very fine grained, ripe and soft tannins. Fresh acidity gives a vibrant ripeness and excellent poise. There is impressive intensity and length to this wine that is fleet-footed and seductive.
The 2014 Le Gay is the normal blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, and it’s a rich, surprisingly structured and tannic wine in the vintage. Deep purple/plum colored with a great bouquet of black cherries, plums, chocolate and tobacco leaf, this medium to full-bodied, concentrated, chewy 2014 should be given 3-4 years of bottle age and enjoyed over the following 20-25 years.2020 - 2045
Very ripe, rounded and creamy in feel, with flattering plum sauce and raspberry and boysenberry pâte de fruit flavors. Flecks of anise and black tea impart energy, keeping this focused and driven through the finish. A flashy display of fruit. Drink now through 2030. 1,250 cases made.
Bramble freshness on the nose the start of the palate is bright. It fills out in the middle rich ripe black plum but at the back it lacks a bit of richness and is firmer on the finish. 2021-30
Figgy and slightly pruney, as it tends to be, even in cooler vintages, this is boldy oaked and rich, with flavours of plum jam, black cherries and vanilla. The acidity comes late on the palate, but gives the wines much needed freshness and lift.
The 2014 Le Gay is blessed with a fabulous bouquet of brambly red berry fruit tinged with black truffle, roasted chestnut and just a hint of hung game. There is marvelous energy here, the aromatics keeping you engaged. The palate is medium-bodied with superb purity, certainly very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Sure, there is a veneer of vanilla oak to be assimilated on the finish, but there is such depth and persistence that this will be no problem. This surpasses my expectations from barrel and continues the fine form of this Pomerol estate. Drink Date 2020-2040
The Château Le Gay 2014 has a tightly wound bouquet with subtle tertiary scents, woodland aromas infusing the red and black berry fruit. This is a more classic take of this Pomerol cru. The palate is very well balanced with fine, supple tannins and nicely judged acidity. It is a dialled back Le Gay compared to recent vintages, one that maintains satisfying balance, if not the peacock's tail that has adorned other vintages. It's no "2010", a wine that I consider a benchmark for the estate, but it will drink nicely over the next 10 to 15 years. Drink: 2017 - 2027
Serious fruit with ripeness and pretty tannic texture. We will see.
Dark crimson. Very meaty luscious Pomerol nose. Rich and glamorous. Really fine and palate soothing. Not big and heavy but well-polished tannins and masses of flattering fruit.
