The wood treatment that was moderately evident when I originally reviewed this (see herein) has now been almost completely integrated and easily allows the maturing and mostly red berry fruit, spice and earth-scented nose to be appreciated. There is reasonably good richness to the focused and intense medium-bodied flavors that possess good if not truly special depth and persistence on the balanced finish. I was somewhat surprised at how relatively forward this was given that it's from 2008 and in particular, from magnum format. As such it could be enjoyed now though I would be inclined to allow it another 4 to 7 years of cellaring first.
An expressive and elegant mélange of oak trimmed and very spicy red and blue pinot fruit aromas nuanced by hints of violets and the expected pungent Gevrey earth that is also picked up by the rich and particularly full flavors that possess a natural sweetness, which serves to buffer the firm tannins on the wonderfully persistent finish. A lovely and entirely classic Bèze that is built to age.
