A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, the 2009 Montlandrie has a deep garnet color, with a touch of brick. It swans out of the glass with showy notes of black cherry preserves, blueberry pie, raspberry coulis, and Indian spices, followed by suggestions of incense, dried roses, and iron ore, with a touch of cardamom. The full-bodied palate delivers compelling tension with velvety tannins and mouth-coating black fruit preserves, finishing very long and spicy. It still has a lot of fruit and soul so you can continue to cellar another 10-15 years at least. 2000 cases were made.
Do not ignore this wonderful Cotes de Castillon! It has a beautiful, vibrant bouquet with very expressive Cabernet Franc. Wonderful delineation here with hints of crushed rose petals and vivacious red fruits. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. There is a real fleshiness here from the Merlot, but the Cabernet Franc completes the picture with the hints of tobacco on the finish. Superb. Tasted September 2011.
This shows wonderful aromas of blackberry with hints of flowers. Full bodied, with superfine tannins and a long, long finish. 75 percent Merlot and 25 percent Cabernet Franc. A new wine from the owner of L'église Clinet, who recently bought the 36-acre vineyard.
Some of the wine was aged in new oak and some in no oak. Seductive, sweet and opulent - a wine with a future. Drink 2013-2018
A new venture from Denis Durantou of L'Eglise-Clinet fame. Dense fruit. Supple tannins. Good balance, the freshness of the limestone terroir apparent. Drink 2013-2018.
This expressive red delivers floral, vanilla, red berry and licorice
aromas and flavors that are bright and focused. Offers firm tannins
and fresh acidity. Vivid and long, in the modern style. Merlot
and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2019.
Abundant juicy fruit on the nose and in the mouth! It has a firm structure accompanied by a sexy, open, opulent taste. Velvety and really appealing.
A new property owned by Denis Durantou of Ch Eglise Clinet. Lots of Cabernet Franc on clay. First vintage, bought March 2009. 1 ha of St-Émilion would cost the same as 10 ha here, and 1 ha in Pomerol would be the equivalent cost of 45 ha of Castillon. You can see Troplong Mondot from the property. Very rich and thick and opulent. Thick and dry and dense. Lots of tannins and very ambitious. Outstanding for the appellation. Look at those suggested drink dates! Date tasted 28th March 2010. Drink 2017-2027.
