Mazy Chambertin, Domaine Armand Rousseau 2005

Tasting Notes

A deft but not invisible touch of wood sets off the notably ripe, cool and pure nose of various dark berries and plenty of Gevrey style earth and sauvage character. There is lovely vibrancy to the detailed and delicious middle weight flavors that are on the lighter and more elegant side in the context of what I typically find in the 2005 vintage, all wrapped in a lingering, complex, well-balanced and moderately firm finish. While this has not quite peaked yet it could be approached now with pleasure and without having left too much upside development potential on the table. Drink 2020+

An earthier and much more serious nose of earth, game, truffle and spice adds plenty of aromatic nuance to the very fresh red and black berry aromas that complement perfectly the rich, supple and much sweeter big-bodied flavors that deliver a real sense of energy and volume to the driving and well muscled finish. I quite like this.
