The quality at this estate has exploded in the past few years and, having previously flown under the radar, the wines are attracting lots of attention and scores to boot. The style here embraces the florality and elegance of La Morra but there is more texture and weight than other estates in the commune. For fans of La Morra looking for more oomph.
The Mauro Veglio 2021 Gattera is another knock-out new release from this excellent estate. It opens with heady aromas of mature woodland berry, fragrant purple flower, exotic dark spice and a whiff of eucalyptus while the delicious, elegantly structured palate features ripe black cherry, raspberry compote, vanilla and licorice. Hailing from estate grapes in La Morra, it’s a great expression of the site and of the vintage. Drink 2031–2041.
