Vosne Romanee Suchots, Domaine Sylvain Cathiard 2020

Once again, the nose is wonderfully spicy with its very Vosne aromas of anise, clove, soy, hoisin and sandalwood wisps that add serious breadth to the ripe and liqueur-like black fruit scents. The lavishly rich and opulent larger-scaled flavors coat the palate with an abundance of dry extract that gives the mouthfeel an almost viscous feel, all wrapped in a moderately powerful, serious and hugely long finish. This is a flat out exceptional Suchots and worth a special effort to find. (Drink starting 2035)

Aromas of cherries, wild berries, plum preserves, exotic spices and candied citrus peel introduce the 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots, a medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated wine that's broad and fleshy, with bright acids and plenty of powdery structuring tannins. This, too, shows plenty of promise.
