Bright deep red. Perfumed aromas of sour red cherries, raspberries, ink, graphite and milk chocolate. A spicy, nicely concentrated midweight that boasts good density and impressive youthful energy to its ripe, rich red fruit, mineral and lemony flavours. This very fine wine finishes with dusty youthful tannins, excellent length and noteworthy versatility. Drinking window: 2027-2038.
The 2021 Barbaresco Pajore is a bright ruby color and reveals a spicier profile in its notes of anise, pink peppercorn, dried cranberries, and smoky incense. It has more persistence and a bit more harmonious and serious balance through the palate, with ripe tannins and a savory saline and mouthwatering finish. This is a serious offering from the Rizzi team with some real aging potential. Drink 2026-2040.
Fragrant and refined, the 2021 Rizzi Pajorè has lovely aromas of violet, baking spice, camphor and forest berry. Linear and elegantly structured, the savory palate offer juicy Morello cherry, raspberry tart, cinnamon and white pepper accompanied by fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps and balanced and tense with youthful energy. Drink 2027–2036.
Pale ruby in colour with a layered nose of ripe red cherry, strawberry and cranberry fruit that shows hints of tobacco, dried flowers and blood orange. The palate is intense, the fruit matched by subtle savoury notes of cigar leaf and star anise. A refined Nebbiolo, the tannins are grippy and persistent as to be expected, but fine-graine and ripe enough to offer a sense of approachability. Long and full of intrigue on the finish, this is an excellent Barabaresco.
Treiso. Just mid ruby. Slumbering, mineral-driven nose with touches of spice. Gorgeous, elegant palate weight. Elegant, cool raspberry fruit and super-fine tannins in equal measure. 2024-2036.
