The 2020 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru is more backward on the nose that others that I have tasted from this vineyard, taking its time to almost reluctantly unfold: blackberry, raspberry, crushed violet and light incense aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, pliant tannins, a keen bead of acidity, quite sapid and fresh with a focused and quite sustained, slightly flinty finish. Excellent.
