Tasting Notes

The Ellena Giuseppe 2019 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Vigna Alferi is luscious and rich with beautifully ripe fruit. There is blackberry, ripe cherry, plum, spice and sweet potting soil. This wine is made from old-vine fruit. The vineyard was planted in 1944 and is located at a slightly higher 350 meters above sea level with the light-colored clay calcareous soils that bring out the best and most fragrant qualities of this versatile variety. The winemaking team achieves a modern expression of Barbera with enhanced richness, softness and concentration. It undergoes three weeks of extended fermentation in steel, and then ages in oak for 20 months with a combination of new and used barrique and larger botte. Fine tannins promise a few good aging years ahead. This is a 4,000-bottle release. 2022 - 2028
