Tasting Notes

The 2020 Blanc from de Fieuzal is performing very well in bottle, exhibiting aromas of peach and nectarine mingled with hints of mint, pastry cream and citrus zest. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, it's a bright, elegantly fleshy wine that's a touch finer-boned than the glossier, more textural 2019. Bottled under Diam 30, this cuvée continues to prove itself as one of the more interesting dry whites produced in contemporary Bordeaux. 2022 - 2043

The 2020 Château de Fieuzal Blanc works much better than its red counterpart this year. It has a straightforward, clean nose of lime, orange pith and light touches of grapefruit. The palate is well balanced with a rounded entry, soft and supple, offering pure peach and apricot notes and fanning out nicely toward the quite luscious but focused finish. Drink over 8–12 years. 2023 - 2040

Gooseberry and basil on the nose with grapefruit, sandalwood, nutmeg and salted almonds. Creamy and bright with vibrant acidity. Delicious marriage of fresh herb and pretty oak spice. Bitter lemon. Needs time to open and come more together. Better after 2025.

The 2020 de Fieuzal Blanc gives up scents of lemon tart, fresh, crunchy pears and white grapefruit with hints of crushed rocks, coriander seed and white pepper. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing and elegantly styled with a quiet intensity of citrus and pear flavors and a chalky finish. Drink 2023-2031.

This has plenty of enjoyable pep to it, and attractive nectarine fruits with grilled herbs and campfire smoke. Plenty of appellation signature, this is always an excellent choice in white Pessac.

Full bottle 1,335 g. Cask sample 'prepared' 6 April. 75% Sauvignon, 25% Sémillon. No SO2 added. pH 3.3. Wine was aged for 12 months.
Nose still a bit indistinct. Good Sauvignon freshness. But at this stage it seems a little more varietal than bordelais. Simple for the moment. 13%

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2021

This was the earliest ever harvest at Château Fieuzal for the white due to the precocious spring growth and hot, dry summer. The 2020 is a blend of 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Sémillon and will be aged in barrel for 12 months. Grassy and zippy on both the nose and palate, this zesty, mineral wine is bright and very approachable. Clean, tangy fruit skips across the palate in this very forward and easy-drinking wine.

(60% SB, 40% SM; 13% ABV; 25% new)
Plump melon and guava to smell, with a subtle oak-vanilla; rich, fresh to lively rather than vital, but with a sufficient acidity nonetheless; plenty of matter, ample in proportions, generous in flavor, deep and vivid, a real sense of “sap” and with fine aromatic persistence. 2024–36.

A full-bodied white with dried-apple, pear and crushed-stone character, creamy texture and bright acidity. Riper style with tangy acidity at the end.
