Wow. This is really impressive with a fabulous density and style. So much mushroom, almond and dried apple, apricot character. Fresh and bright. Joyous.
Lovely and lifted. More acidity than many but really rather beautiful and fresh. Clean and fresh as a mountain stream. Polished. Very different style from Ch Coutet – lighter and fresher – but very good.

Always a fine Barsac, this property also produces miniscule quantities of a cuvée called "L'Extravagant" in some vintages. Bright gold with an aromatic acacia honey and sweet vanilla nose giving an enticing purity to the aromas. Honeyed peach, lemons and light smoke are overlayed with earthy, old library book notes from the botrytis. Intense, sweet and long.
Another blockbuster Barsac is the 2015 Château Doisy Daëne from proprietor Denis Dubourdieu. This huge, opulent, awesome wine gives up layers of white peach, caramelized citrus, and white flowers, and stays shockingly pure, polished, and precise on the palate for a wine of this richness and scale. It’s an awesome wine to drink over the coming 2-3 decades. 2018 - 2048
The fruit is ripe the nose has ripe apricot richness the start of the palate fleshy and rich. Brighter in the middle some underlying citrus and although lighter at the back the finish has the sweetness of ripe fruit. 2021-2030
The straight Doisy-Daëne is less sweet than the Extravagant bottling (see above), with 136
grams of sugar, and is Semillon, as opposed to Sauvignon-based. Typically refreshing and
well balanced with the classic Barsac acidity complementing the peach and apricot fruit, this
is delicate, perfumed and stylishly oaked. Drink: 2018-28
They sell a lot of Sauvignon Blanc in dry white wine form, so they took it out of the blend and it luckily didn’t take away
from the flavour in this vintage. Creamy and pineapple scented, this is a lovely style and freshness but I doubt it will
gather much complexity with age.
The 2015 Doisy-Daene has a detailed bouquet, very correct, nothing showy or flamboyant as is typical of Denis Dubourdieu's Barsac. The palate is extremely well balanced and very pure: citrus fruit infusing the honeyed botrytis, veins of white peach and quince, leading to a very precise and sustained finish that leaves you with a smile on your face...and the wine ain't even finished yet! Just a wonderful wine - full of class and nascent joie-de-vivre. Chapeau Denis! Drink: 2019 - 2050.
Bright greenish gold. Complex, immediately appealing nose. Racy yet with weight. A very superior wine. Real attack and structure. I wonder what L'Extravagant is like?! Really very rewarding and compelling. Lots of substance but not at all heavy. Such drive and energy here!
