This seductive 2003 possesses a dark garnet color, soft, berry, earthy fruit, ripe tannin and a fully mature style. Consume this medium-bodied, charming red over the next few years. Drink 2014-2019.
Intense aromas of blackberry, cherry, tobacco and milk chocolate. Full-bodied, with ultrafine tannins and a beautiful finish of ripe fruit and light earth. Very balanced and refined. Delicious already. Best after 2010. 7,500 cases made.
Quite a pale rim already. Very light nose. Soft and round and sweet. Lightly drying tannins on the end actually add some welcome punctuation. (Average group score: 14.9)
Atypical of the vintage, this is much more in the classic Graves style than it is a "canicule" wine from 2003. Lots of spice, tar and cedar on the nose. Great complexity on the palate - almost a touch Burgundian in its multi-dimensional flavours of roasted meat, spice, wild mushrooms and "forest floor". Supple, ripe, silky-smooth and up-front. A gorgeous glass of wine that is neither over-ripe nor lean. Lovely balance. Fun to drink yet serious too. A wine for hedonists and those who like something more serious. Lovely.
A classic Graves blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this classy red's smoky Cabernet aromas combine with a trace of vanilla oak in a sleek, modern style, with opulent cassis that's halfway to new World, while the fruit quality points firmly to Bordeaux. It's a medium-bodied style that's drinkable now but it will continue to improve over the next 10 years.
Rich, ripe, gently minerally nose; elegantly balanced middleweight, supple and finely tannic; ripe fruited, well-sustained, fairly fleshy core that is stylish, complex, aromatic and long. Lovely harmonious wine - particularly successful in the vintage.
Right Bank consultant Stephane Derenoncourt was brought in as the lead consultant at this noble estate in Pessac-Leognan. As a result, the tannins are sweeter, the oak is more subtle and better integrated, and the wine is more textured and complex. An evolved, complex bouquet of black currants, forest floor, smoked herbs, and sweet cherries as well as currants emerges from the 2003. It displays supple tannin, medium to full body, beautiful purity, and a classic, elegant finish. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2019.
