Tasting Notes

Somewhat disappointing, the 2005 Vray Croix de Gay is closed, but exhibits plenty of muscle, a rustic style, meaty, truffle, and licorice characteristics, and astringent, firm tannins. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 15 or more. Drink 2010-2025.

Mid crimson. Florally aromatic - sweet and pretty. Very delicate hand. Far from taken to the limit of ripeness and even with a little bite of less than to-the-limit-ripe tannins. Refreshing - a bit of a bet on the near side of the equation, presumably to avoid the risk of overripe Merlot? Long. Drink 2014 to 2026. Date tasted 17th April 06.

An estate on the rise, Vray Croix de Gay's 2005 possesses loads of black raspberry fruit intermixed with licorice, truffle, and subtle herb characteristics. Medium body, sweet tannin, and plenty of muscle, power, and richness on the back end suggest it will benefit from 5-6 years of bottle age, and should drink well for two decades. It reminds me of the old style Le Gay wines.Drink 2012-2027.
