Chambolle Musigny Les Veroilles, Domaine Ghislaine Barthod 2016

Tasting Notes

From a plot of Véroilles, a 0.37 hectare monopole of the domaine situated above Bonnes Mares, which was re-classified as premier cru in 1987. It's a special wine, with aromas of red and black fruit, pungent forest floor and game bird, leading into a cool, sapid palate with lovely energy and cut. It has a deep core of fruit and fine tannins, which only make themselves felt as a touch of light grip on the back end. (Drink between 2026-2045)

This is a bit riper with violet, anise and black cherry aromas that are laced with sandalwood nuances leading to intense, powerful and mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that are underpinned by moderately firm tannins on the impressively long finish. This beautifully complex effort is at once succulent yet serious and a wine that will need at least some patience to round off the tannic spine. (Drink starting 2026)
