The 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons is showing beautifully, mingling notes of white peach and spring blossom with hints of Meyer lemon, crisp green apple and pear. Medium to full-bodied, its satiny attack segues into a tensile, vibrant and nicely concentrated mid-palate, concluding with a saline finish.
5* WInes
Mostly located in Vaillons itself, in the centre of the steep slope. Glowing pale green with a lean and hungry nose. The wine opens out really well on the palate, this one has nailed the vintage, with an extra gloss, delicious perfume on the classic bone structure. I love the crunch and energy of the aftertaste. Tasted: May 2019
Subtle and aromatic with hints of tropical fruit and citrus, as well as minerals. Medium-bodied with layers of pretty fruit and an almond and honey aftertaste. Drink or hold.
Fèvre's 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons was still a little troubled with suspended lees when I tasted it, so it's early days to make any definitive judgement, but this—along with Vaudésir—was the domaine's first pick this year, and it's certainly lively and elegantly textural, with chalky extract and good precision on the finish.
