Tasting Notes

The barrel and foudre fermented and aged 2022 Malvasía Volcánica, a natural crossing between Marmajuelo and Malvasía Aromática, is moderately floral and perfumed (the variety is more neutral than the Aromática one), and it has good ripeness and 11.8% alcohol with a vibrant palate and great freshness. The palate is more austere than I expected, which I like. This is the most-planted variety in the zone and in the property. 12,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in June 2023. Drink 2024-2028.

Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, November 2023

There is an immediate sense of depth and potential to the nose here, with spice box, preserved lemons, lemon verbena and fresh citrus peel. The palate has a hit of chalk, adding pithiness to an initially oily texture. Layered and full of intrigue, waves of acidity add a touch of amaro to the fruit. Lipsmacking with a salty, vibrant, acid-driven finish, this is an impressive wine that you could cellar for a few years, though it is already drinking well.
